GSM is known as Grammage per square meter, which is an important factor in Paper and Packaging industry for measurement. GSM Scale is used to measuretheGSM of paper through the weight of paper. Body of GSM Scale is made up of stainless steel. There is a pendulum attached in GSM Scale which is used to calculate the GSM of paper when hanger moves along with it. The accuracy of weighing paper should be proper and the accuracy depends upon the movement of pendulum. This accuracy is maintained as long as pendulum achieved its final position. GSM Scale has tabular pendulum. The gravity provides good stability and reliability to GSM scale. In single graduate scale, scale selects only one template. Calibration of GSM Scale should be done by precision dead weight. Generally we used 0-250GSM Scale. So we take 20 x 25mm template to measure the GSM of paper. GSM Scale is calibrated to measure the GSM of 20 x 25mm sized templates.Sample of paper taken from the templateis placed in the hanger of GSM Scale and then we released the hanger along with pendulum. When pendulum stops moving and become constant then this is the GSM of paper. 0-500 GSM Scale is not used generally but it can use for measuring the GSM of Kraft paper, whose thickness is more than average writing printing paper. The whole process of GSM Scale is done manually.Accuracy of GSM Scale should keep free from corrosion, distortion and other reasons which affect the accuracy of weight. Pap-Tech COBB Sizing Tester: Manufactures and Suppliers Pap-Tech Engineers and Associates manufacture and supplies Cobb Sizing Tester. Cobb Sizing Tester is used for measuring the water absorbency of paper or paperboard. Cobb Sizing Tester is made up of stainless steel material, which is corrosion free. Cobb sizing tester has a circular shaped pan. Circular Sample sheet of 100 cm^2 area is placed over the rubber of circular pan with water inside the container of pan. Circular pan can be rotated about 180 degree. Cobb sizing tester is used to measure the absorbency of water of sample sheet. Cobb Sizing Tester has a stainless steel roller also. Roller is used for drying the wet sample sheet. Firstly, we measure the GSM of circular sample sheet of paper or paperboard and then placed in the circular pan filled with water for Cobb Sizing test. Then, pan should be rotated at 180 degree and wait for few minutes. After sometime we see sample sheet of paper or paperboard absorbed the water. Due to water absorbency weight of paper or paperboard increases. Then, wet paper is pressed by roller to make the paper or paperboard dry. This process is done manually. Thus, we calculate the GSM of dry paper or paperboard, and compare it with the GSM reading of before process. So we can determine the increment of weight after the whole process.
